Boston Young Men’s Christian Union (BYMCU) Facility Renovations
The BYMCU project was one of the most challenging to date for W.T. Rich Company. The BYMCU is America’s oldest continually operating athletic facility. Located in the heart of Boston, this five-story, 80,000 SF facility is an historical landmark. W.T. Rich was requested by the owner to maintain the facilities’ day-to-day operations while performing a major renovation. The exterior façade, windows, doors and frames were restored in a manner that preserved the historical details of the building. The entire facility had to be brought up to code. This entailed major reworking of the existing stairways and ceilings; fireproofing of existing structural steel elements; and the installation of a new sprinkler system throughout the building. All new mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems were installed throughout the structure. The project was completed on-time, within budget and to the full satisfaction of the owner.
