Johnson Elementary School Addition and Renovations
The Johnson School project consisted of the new construction of a 16,000 square foot classroom wing addition and a major renovation of 25,000 square feet of existing classrooms, offices, the gymnasium and the cafeteria. The work included complete replacement of all MEP systems. The project faced significant schedule challenges in that the new classroom addition and renovation of all existing classroom space needed to be completed before school opened in the fall of 2007. In addition, W.T Rich was not given access to the areas to be renovated until mid-June 2006 and thus demolition work; MEP systems, rough-in and finishes; and all interior finishes had to be completed in all existing classrooms – from start to finish – in an 11-week period. The construction of the new addition was completed in a five-month fast track manner that ran in parallel with the renovation work. All completion milestones were met to allow school opening and operation in September 2006 and the balance of the renovation work was completed ahead of schedule by January 2007.
