Massachusetts Maritime Academy

The Mass Maritime Academy Library Modernization project consisted of the new construction of a 43,000 SF state-of-the-art library building using the Public CM-at-Risk process.

The new library includes a Learning Commons, an Academic Resource Center, a new Bridge Simulator, Classrooms and Support Spaces.  The completed building includes an array of unique architectural features including limestone veneer, glass flooring at stair landings, a rooftop skylight that runs the entire length of the building, a large rotunda encased in architectural woodwork and much more.  The project included 48 geothermal wells and has sufficient credits to achieve LEED Gold certification.  W.T. Rich is currently adding a photovoltaic roof array, which will enable us to achieve LEED Platinum certification.

The project made extensive use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) throughout Preconstruction and Construction phases, including clash detection/resolution, visualization and model-to-field applications.

Duration: 8 Months Preconstruction, 16 Months Construction
Contract Value: $17,000,000
