Renovations to the War Memorial Building at the Cambridge Rindge and Latin School
The Cambridge War Memorial Building Renovations project in Cambridge, MA consisted of a complete “gut” renovation of this existing, three-story 150,000 square foot building. Although the building was unoccupied during the construction period, the project was under pressure to meet aggressive completion times so the school could re-occupy their newly renovated facility. The nature and scope of the project work was both extensive and, in some cases, complex or technically challenging. Highlights of the project’s scope include the following: Extensive asbestos and hazardous material abatement, complete demolition and removal of all existing MEP system, partition walls and interior finishes, new concrete foundations within the building’s existing basement crawl space, new structural steel framing from the basement to the roof supporting a new, steel framed, 5,000 square foot mechanical building addition on the roof, extensive concrete underslab, overhead and concrete column repair work involving pressure injected repairs at cracks and patching of spalled and deteriorated concrete, concrete repairs encompassed both deep and surface repairs, new masonry partitions with structural glazed tile, new and restored terrazzo floors and ramps, three restored swimming pools, including ceramic tile repair and upgraded mechanical systems, new rubber sports floor in Field House building, new state-of-the art studios, fitness rooms, multi-purpose rooms and gymnasium, including telescoping bleachers, scoreboards and athletic equipment, metal window replacement, new and repaired glass block windows, and exterior masonry re-pointing and restoration, site improvements including new and reset granite seat walls, granite seat blocks, concrete paving with integral color, granite stairs, planters with granite veneer, chain link fencing, block retaining walls, and plantings.
